DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The Department started its journey in 1965. The department is currently imparting Three -Year UG General and Four-Year Honourse courses as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan since 1960 in continuation of 3- Year UG General & Hons. degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department in honourse course is 56 (fiftysix) and in General Course with Major in Physics is 38 (thirtyeight). The curriculum courses are distributed in six semesters for General degree and eight semesters for Honourse degree. The Department houses excellent Laboratory facility with upgraded instruments as per BU Curriculum. Presently it has four Laboratories. Faculty members are actively engaged in research leading to publication of quality reserch works in reputed national and international journals. Department has completed two research Projects in last five years and two faculty members have completed their Post doctoral Work in India and abroad. Department encourages augmented learnings apart from the prescribed curriculum. Inter departmental students seminar, Quiz contests and Industry visit are regularly conducted by the department. The department publishes wall magazine annually, and encourages students to take part in various competitive Examinations, summer schools etc. through display of informtion regularly.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The Department started its journey in 1952. The department is currently imparting quality Education in Three -Year UG General and Four-Year Honourse courses as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan  in continuation of 3- Year UG General & Hons. degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department in honourse course With Major in Mathematics is 99 (Ninetynine) and in General Course with Major in Mathematics is 39. The curriculum courses are distributed in six semesters for General degree and eight semesters for Honourse degree. The Department has five faculty members and three of them are Ph.D. degree holder. Two faculty members have obtained their Ph.D. degree while in service and the department has published thirteen research papers in National and Interntional Journals of repute in last five years. Department encourages augmented learnings apart from the prescribed curriculum through intra departmental students seminar, Quiz contests,  publication of wall magazine annually, and motivating students to take part in various competitive Examinations. The Department conducts Mahendra Nath Dutta Memorial Lecture annually.

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

The Department of Botany is one of the old departments in the College established in 1952 and was upgraded to under-graduate Honours teaching department in 1975. At Present, Department imparts Three -Year UG General and Four-Year Honourse courses as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan  in continuation of 3- Year UG General & Hons. degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department in honourse course is 56 (fiftysix) and in General Course with Major in Botany is 47 (fortyseven). The Department has a space of 1550 sq. ft. with well equipped laboratories. The main thrust area of teaching and research are Mircobiology, Plant Physiology, Cytogenetics & Plant Biotechnology, Systemic Botany and Plant Pathology.  Six faculty members with one supporting staff are working in the Department. Among the faculty members 04 are Ph.D. holder and 01 is pursuing his Ph.D. The faculty members have  published more than 30 research papers in different reputed National and International Journals in recent past. The Department encourages augmented learning apart from the prescribed curriculum. Intra and Inter departmental students’ seminar, Quiz contests and Field visits are regularly conducted by the department. The department has distinction in having its alumni placed at various respectable positions within the Country and abroad. The department maintains a Medicinal Garden at the College Campus. “Habibur Rahman and Amena Khatun Memorial Scholarship” is given to the student of this Department who secures the highest marks / grade point in B.Sc. Botany Honours examination conducted by the affiliating University.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY

The Department started its journey in 1969 and was upgraded to a UG Honours teaching department in 1986 under the affiliation of BU. Quality Education is offered through Three - Year UG General and Four-Year Honourse courses as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP 2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan  in continuation of 3- Year UG General & Hons. degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department in honourse course is 49 (fortynine) and in General Course with Major in Physiology is 45 (fortyfive). Three faculty members are Ph.D. degree holders and all the teaching staff are involved in Research and Extension. The Department is in regular practice to organise health camp and field survey for rural people in backward villages of the neighbourng areas and undertakes health studies of the college students and prepares health cards for them regularly.The Department encourages augmented learning apart from the prescribed curriculum. Intra and Inter departmental students’ seminar, Publication of wall Magazine, and industry visit are regularly conducted by the department. Students regularly participate in Science Exhibition.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

The Department started its journey in 1961 and was upgraded to a Post Graduate Teaching Department from 2007 under the affiliation of the University of Burdwan. Present student intake in the UG Honours course is 46 (forty six) and in M.Sc. course is 18 (Eighteen) and the course curriculum is distributed in six and four semesters respectively. Department has excellant laboratory with all kind of amenities, in-housed Musium with large collection of specimens and departmental seminar Library for P.G. Students. Field visits are part and parcel of the Curriculum and Department encourages augmented learnings apart from the prescribed curriculum through intra departmental students seminar, Quiz contests,  publication of wall magazine annually, and motivating students to take part in various competitive Examinations.

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

The Department started its journey in 2002 as a self finance Course under the affilation of the University of Burdwan. Now it is a regular department imparting Three - Year UG General and Four-Year Honourse courses as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP 2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan  in continuation of 3- Year UG  Hons. degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department in 4-year honourse course is 60 (Sixty) and that in UG 3-Yr Degree programme with Major in Microbiology is 47 (forty seven). Department encourages augmented learnings apart from the prescribed curriculum through intra and inter departmental students seminar, Quiz contests,  publication of wall magazine annually, and motivating students to take part in various competitive Examinations. Field visit and industry visit are part and parcel of Curriculum. Two faculty member are engaged in research and one research project has been completed as co-investigator from the department.

DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PROTECTION:

The Department started its journey in 2002. Plant Protection is presently offered as a Major subject in Three - Year UG General degree Programme  as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP 2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan  in continuation of 3- Year UG General  degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department is 44 (fortyfour). Plant Protection is also available as a Minor subject combination. Department encourages augmented learnings apart from the prescribed curriculum through Field visit, intra and inter departmental students seminar, Quiz contests,  publication of wall magazine annually, and motivating students to take part in various competitive Examinations.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE 

The Department started its journey in 1998 with guest faculty to support different Honoures teaching departments of the College. Govt. of West Bengal created one full time faculty post in 2005 and the department is presently imparting Three - Year UG Degree Programme (General) as per CCFUP in accordance with NEP 2020 (introduced in 2023) under the affliation of the University of Burdwan  in continuation of 3- Year UG General degree Courses as per CBCS (Old). Present student intake of the department with Major in Computer Science is 37 (Thirty Seven). Computer Science is also available as a Minor subject. The Department has an excellent inhouse Computer Laboratory and  Faculty member is also engaged and impart teaching in different interdeprtmental curriculum e.g. Computational Physics, Computational Chemistry, and Zoology. College has submitted proposal to Higher Education Department for opening Honourse Course.
